About Us
All You Can Eat for as Much as it Costs
HISTORY
One word can describe the Modern Cafe: community; located in a charming nook of Northeast Minneapolis, one of the oldest neighborhoods in the city. In 1994 neighborhood guy, Jim Grell, turned the historic 1940s building known as Rabatin's Northeast Café "modern”. Evolving it from blue-collar diner to a hip, retro space offering classic American favorites prepared with French techniques to create a contemporary twist.

OUR INSPIRATION
The Modern offers seasonal menus inspired by local, sustainable, and organic ingredients, complimented with quality wines, classic cocktails, and local taps. We support Rainforest Alliance and brew organic coffees aquired over PA gourmet coffee roaster where special procurement priority is given to women farmers. The owners of the Modern believe in sustainable, living wages, commitment to long-term employment and reinvesting in the Northeast community. Come join us every day of the week except Mondays. Cheers!
